ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ (ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½) has been awarded $2,284,000 in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Education under the Title III Strengthening Institutions Program (SIP). This five-year award will enable ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ to significantly expand virtual learning capacity and will introduce additional on-campus support services for students.

ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ (ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½) was granted initial accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) on November 6, 2025. ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ earned accredited status after completing the Accelerated Process for Initial Accreditation and demonstrating it meets all HLC foundational requirements, which include eligibility requirements, criteria for accreditation, assumed practices, obligations of membership, and compliance with federal regulations.

ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ (ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½) honored veterans as part of its festivities on Community Day on Saturday, November 1 at the Key West Campus. ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ President Dr. Jonathan Gueverra delivered his annual Salute to Veterans, honoring Major Edward Coy and Sargeant Terrence Varney, both U.S. Army veterans who graduated from ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ and are now College employees.

ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ (ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½) will present how Monroe County high school students can get a head start on college at a virtual information session on Wednesday, November 5 at 5:30 p.m. All students and their parents/ guardians are invited to explore the Dual Enrollment program and learn about the pathways to and benefits of simultaneously earning college and high school credits at no cost to the student, potentially saving families thousands of dollars.

ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½â€™ (ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½) Institute for Public Safety (IPS) graduated the Crossover Corrections to Basic Law Enforcement (BLE) Academy #37 on October 17 at the ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ Upper Keys Center. Ten certified Corrections Officers successfully completed the 518-hour Crossover to BLE training program, and upon passing the State Officer Certification Exam, each will be eligible to become a Florida Law Enforcement Officer.

October 21, 2025— ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½â€™ (ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½) Institute for Public Safety (IPS) held a graduation ceremony for the Basic Law Enforcement Academy #93 on October 15 at the Tennessee Williams Theatre on the ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ Key West Campus. Sixteen cadets successfully completed the 770-hour training program, and upon passing the State Officer Certification Exam, each will be eligible to become a Florida Law Enforcement Officer.

ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ (ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½) invites all to our 11th annual Community Day on Saturday, November 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on the Key West Campus. The free, family-friendly event will feature a variety of attractions for every member of the community.

ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ Foundation honored both scholarship donors and recipients at its 13th annual Scholarship Social in the Tennessee Williams Theatre on the Key West Campus. For the academic year 2024-25, the ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ Foundation awarded 289 scholarships totaling $245,297.

Two faculty members from ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ have co-authored research that could transform how cities harness wind energy. Drs. Hussain and Rice were among a team of scientists who studied a special type of wind turbine that does not have spinning blades like conventional wind turbines. Instead, it uses two curved pieces called airfoils that sit across from each other. When wind blows over these pieces, it creates a vacuum and a suction that pulls air through the middle and spins a generator to make electricity. "This technology addresses a major challenge in urban wind energy," said Dr. Hussain. "Traditional wind turbines are too large and noisy for city use, but our research shows these motionless systems have the potential to be a game-changer."

The Hemingway Look-Alike Society (HLAS) presented a $53,000 check to ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ (ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½) Foundation, completing a three-year, $174,000 pledge that expanded their scholarship endowment to $750,000. HLAS has built the largest endowment with the ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ Foundation, solidifying their legacy at ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ and the ability to fund future scholarships for many years to come.
